The English Language Institute (ELI) is an academic unit in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts, Letters, and Education at Eastern Washington University. It was established in 1979 and has been in existence for over 35 years.
The goal of the ELI is to provide English language training to speakers of other languages in order for these students to matriculate to colleges and universities in English-speaking countries. The focus of the program is on English for academic purposes. Students learn English related to academic contexts such as writing essays, taking lecture notes, and giving presentations.
EWU’s English Language Institute (ELI) has seen an increased enrollment of Saudi Arabian women in recent years.
