Experience EWU

Cheney, a small farming community and university town with a population of just over 10,000, is a friendly, welcoming place. EWU is committed to celebrating campus diversity, promoting respect for the rights and privileges of all people and teaching acceptance of differing perspectives and world views. Over 600 students and scholars from more than 30 countries connect EWU’s campuses to the community by contributing global perspectives that enrich the learning environment for all students, faculty, staff and community members.

Where Is Eastern Washington University?

Founded in 1882, EWU’s main campus is located in Cheney, Washington, USA, and covers 329.5 acres in a park-like setting, with rolling wheat fields just steps from campus.

13,000 students from more than 50 countries studying together in the USA's Inland Northwest region. EWU is only 15 minutes from Spokane International Airport (GEG). Mountains, lakes, canyons, prairies, forests, ski slopes, and rolling hills surround our beautiful campus.

Housing for International Students

EWU has seven safe, secure on-campus dormitories featuring high-speed Internet, community lounges, cable television, laundry facilities, and dedicated staff. International students have an opportunity to live in EWU’s Global Connections Living Learning Community (LLC). Global Connections is an ideal community to explore global issues including culture, business, languages and current events. Participants are encouraged to share their customs, food and language in this safe, welcoming environment. This Streeter Hall housing option applies to all international students, students studying at the English Language Institute (ELI), study abroad students and other students who want to live in a truly global community.

Global Ambassador Program

A Global Ambassador (GA) is a current international or domestic student trained in cross-cultural communication and basic student immigration regulations. GAs help international students adapt to EWU and the U.S. In addition to meeting students at the airport upon arrival, EWU’s GAs provide:

  • English language conversation practice
  • Field trips and cultural activities
  • Shopping trips
