EWU President's Statement Regarding Nice, France

Our hearts go out to everyone hurt by the attacks in Nice, France. EWU has released the following statement.

Dear campus community:

We join the world in mourning another horrific attack on the people of France during a Bastille Day celebration in Nice.

Fifteen Eastern Washington University students are studying in Nice this summer on a faculty-led program through our Office of Global Initiatives (OGI).  Many of them were at the celebration when the violence erupted. We are relieved to report that all our students and faculty are safe.

As soon as Eastern was notified of the attack by Professor Florian Preisig, who is leading the study abroad visit, OGI staff promptly contacted all the students to ensure their safety. EWU apprised the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program of the situation.

Support resources are being provided to all students in Nice. EWU is evaluating support services it can offer our students, and we have reached out to all current and incoming EWU students from France.

EWU sends its thoughts to all impacted by this horrific tragedy.
