Psychology & Science in Literature, History, and Practice in Paris, France and London, England

Learn about historical theories and influences involved in the development of medical and psychological literature, science, and practice. After participating in either the English, History, or Psychology prerequisite course, students will travel on a two-week trip to London and Paris during finals week and spring break 2019*. Students and faculty will visit various sites in these two iconic cities to more deeply understand the progression of psychological science from the different disciplinary perspectives. There will be a particular focus on the Victorian Period. The respective EWU course and study abroad program fulfill major and minor requirements specific to the disciplines listed above.

*CISabroad will be the acting agent and logistics supervisor for the program. An on-site representative for CISabroad will accompany the group throughout the duration of the program.

Program Costs and Features

$3,787 Course Fee

Included in course fee: Group travel from Spokane, WA to London and Paris; Accommodations in shared occupancy hotels; Breakfast provided daily; Group welcome and farewell dinners; Coach bus and public transportation as well as Eurostar train travel from London to Paris; CISI health insurance and liability coverage; All course related excursions and entrance fees; and unlimited travel cards in zones 1-2 in London. Gratuities to bus drivers, guides.

Exclusions: additional meals not listed (students should plan to allow for $40 per day for food); optional entertainment and excursions not listed in itinerary; excess baggage fees; passport and /or visa expenses; mobile phone with international calling plan; laundry expenses.

Registration Procedure

Students must register in one of the pre-requisite courses in either English, History, or Psychology for Winter term. Financial Aid is available for EWU students.  A non-refundable payment of $450 towards the program fee is due Nov. 1, 2018. All students should plan to have a passport valid for travel by January 1, 2019. Funding is available for passport costs through The Fund a Passport Grant. Students must work with the Study Abroad Resource Center to provide the required travel documentation for the program. Afternoon: Hop aboard a boat cruise along the River Thames to see some of London’s main sites
Evening: Group welcome dinner at George Inn, National Trust (or similar) and CISabroad Orientation

Day 2: Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - London
Day: Enjoy a day exploring some of London’s top museums: The Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and
the Victoria and Albert Museum

Day 3: Wednesday, March 20, 2019 - London
Morning: Guided visit to the Old Operating Theatre
Afternoon: A self-guided visit to the Sigmund Freud Museum and Home
Evening: Enjoy a performance at the Globe (pending availability)

Day: Day trip to Kent for visits to the Down House, Charles Darwin’s former home, and the Bethlem Royal Hospital’s

Day 5: Friday, March 22, 2019 - London
Morning: Enjoy a self-guided tour of the Charles Dickens Museum
Afternoon: Free time with La Vida Local activity suggestions provided by the OPC
Evening: Group dinner on Brick Lane, followed by a Jack the Ripper tour of London’s East End

Morning: Check out of accommodations and transfer to St Pancras station for travel to the next destination - Paris!

Evening: Enjoy seeing some of Paris’ iconic sites on a Bateaux Mouche Seine River Cruise

Day 8: Monday, March 25, 2019 - Paris
Morning: Guided walking tour Paris to include, Sainte-Chapelle, Notre Dame, and Champs-Elysées (entry to sites not

Afternoon: Self-guided tour of the Louvre
Evening: Enjoy the views from the Eiffel Tower, lift tickets provided
